Editor's Review

The core loop is dead simple: create a note, add whatever you want, and stick it in a notebook. But the real trick is how you organize. Tags let you cross-reference things across notebooks, so a recipe for chili can live in “Cooking” and also show up under “Meal Prep.” You can set reminders on notes too, which is handy for things like “call the plumber” or “renew that subscription before it auto-charges.” The checklist feature works great for daily tasks, though it’s not quite a full project manager — think more like a running grocery list than a Gantt chart.

Where Evernote stumbles a bit is speed. The app can feel sluggish on older phones, especially when you’ve got a few hundred notes stacked up. Syncing across devices is generally solid, but occasionally a note takes a second longer than you’d like to appear on your laptop. The free tier limits you to two devices and 60 MB of monthly uploads, which is tight if you’re snapping lots of photos. If you’re all-in, the paid plans unlock unlimited devices and more storage, but the free version is still usable for light note-taking.

One thing that keeps people coming back is the web clipper. It’s a browser extension that lets you save whole articles, recipes, or product pages straight into Evernote. You can highlight text, add your own notes, and the original formatting mostly survives. It’s great for research, meal planning, or just hoarding interesting reads for later. The app also plays nice with Google Calendar and Slack, though you’ll need the paid plan for some of those integrations.

Who’s this for? Anyone who hates losing scraps of paper. Students, freelancers, and people with too many browser tabs open will get the most out of it. If you’re new, start with one notebook for everything — just tag your notes and you’ll figure out the structure as you go. Don’t try to organize everything perfectly on day one; that’s how you end up with an empty app.
