The strategy part kicks in between fights. You build up your castle, train soldiers, and research upgrades. But unlike most base-building games, you’re not just waiting for timers to tick down. Every resource you gather goes toward fueling your dragons or reinforcing your army for the next assault. The campaign throws you into familiar locations from the show—Winterfell, King’s Landing, Dragonstone—and each map forces you to adapt. Do you torch the enemy infantry first, or focus their archers before they shred your troops? There’s no pause button. You learn by losing.

What surprised me most is how little the game cares about the show’s plot. There’s no Jon Snow cameo, no Cersei monologue. It’s pure combat, stripped of the political maneuvering. The art style leans into a gritty, painterly look that works better than the cartoony alternatives. And the dragon animations? They’re good. Drogon, Rhaegal, and Viserion all move differently—Drogon hits harder, Viserion is faster. You unlock them one by one, and each changes how you approach a fight.

It’s not perfect. The microtransactions are there—speed-ups, dragon skins, resource packs. You can play through the whole campaign without paying, but the grind gets real around the third chapter. And the PvP mode is brutal if you haven’t sunk serious time into upgrades. But for a free-to-play strategy game with a TV show license, it’s refreshingly focused on action over cutscenes.

If you ever wanted to skip the politics and just roast Lannister armies from above, this is your game. Just don’t expect to hold the Iron Throne without burning a few fingers.
